Twitter users flock to share their thoughts and choose their villain.
It doesn't take the internet very long to take a stance on darn near anything.
On Wednesday -- shortly after Liam Hemsworth filed for divorce from wife-of-seven-months Miley Cyrus, citing "irreconcilable differences" -- Twitter users flocked to the internet to share their thoughts and choose their villain.
Sorry, Liam, but it looks like most people -- at least so far -- are overwhelmingly on Team Miley.
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth Relationship Timeline
View StoryTo be fair, though, the 29-year-old "Hunger Games" actor doesn't have the cult-like following that the 26-year-old pop star does. Miley's "Smilers" have her back through thick and thin -- even if she's the one who's been gallivanting around with someone new and "basically having sex" with them in public.
But before she jetted off to Italy with Brody Jenner's ex-"wife," Kaitlynn Carter, Miley was happily married to Liam -- or so we thought.
The couple wed in a secret ceremony in Nashville, Tennessee, in December of last year after spending the better part of the last decade together. They fell in love on the set of the 2009 Nicholas Sparks movie, "The Last Song," and got engaged in 2012. After a few years of speculation that the twosome had gone their separate ways, they officially reunited in 2016.
Miley Cyrus Seen 'Basically Having Sex' with Kaitlynn Carter in Club After Liam Hemsworth Split
View StoryBut a little over a week ago, a rep for Miley announced the couple had "agreed to separate at this time."
"Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what's best while they both focus on themselves and careers," the statement read. "They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy."
The internet will do no such thing.
Days after she announced the split via her rep, Miley released a single called "Slide Away," which many people believe revealed secrets about Liam.
The Only Thing Kaitlynn Carter Said About Brody Jenner During First Post-Split Interview
View StorySome of the specific references in the song certainly seem to line up with specific details that have been revealed about the couple's troubled marriage. For example, Miley sings, "I want my house in the Hills / Don't want the whiskey and pills / I don't give up easily / But I don't think I'm down."
Sources close to Miley told TMZ she tried to save the marriage, but the deal breaker was that Liam was drinking a lot and using certain drugs. Liam's people have denied this claim, instead suggesting that the marital problems stemmed from Miley's own wild lifestyle, including alleged cheating.
At another point in her song, Miley sings, "Move on we're not 17 / I'm not who I used to be / You say that everything changed / You're right, we're grown now." Interesting. Very interesting.
It's no surprise that among the influx of tweets supporting Miley are urges to stream and download the new track. See what else the Smilers have to say about the divorce in the tweets below.
I hope that Miley is well, many forces, much love and peace, that she takes a deep breath, that she takes her time. May she find her light and peace, what she transmits, you are not alone Miley, we love you and we will always support you. ❤☁✨ pic.twitter.com/sak5w2qk3K
