Rose McGowan Paid Homage to Her Iconic VMAs Look With This Dress

Rose McGowan is bringing us back to 1998.

While appearing at the Q Awards in London last week, the actress rocked the carpet in a curve-hugging sheer knit white dress. The gown, which left little to the imagination, was reminiscent of one of McGowan's most iconic public appearances: her 1998 VMAs look.

And according to McGowan, this was by design.

On Monday, the activist shared a video of herself in the dress on Instagram and revealed that her gown was an homage to her famous see-through VMAs dress.

"Remind you of anything I've worn before? This was my way of doing a funny callback," she captioned the post. "Sometimes humor is essential. Dress by @designhouse.filiz video and voice by @youvegotnomale"

In the video, a voice said, "ehhh, remind you of anything?" as McGowan did a twirl, revealing the criss-cross open back of the dress.

A fan commented on McGowan's post and wrote, "You look stunning! Like the polar opposite of your VMA outfit in color scheme and hairstyle. Love this."

Responding to the fan, the "Charmed" alum said, "that's what I was going for!"

We definitely can see the similarities between McGowan's Q Awards dress and her 1998 MTV Video Music Awards gown -- the latter of which is considered one of the most iconic red carpet looks of all time.

Earlier this year, McGowan said she wore the backless see-through gown at the VMAs because it was the first public appearance after being raped.

"I [wore] that for a reason," she recalled to Jameela Jamil on her "I Weigh" Podcast, per Metro UK. "It was my first public appearance after being raped. And I thought, it was kind of like Russell Crowe and Gladiator when he comes out in the ring and he's like, 'Are you not entertained?' And that was why I did that."

"That was my response to being assaulted," she added.

McGowan has been an outspoken voice in the #MeToo and Times Up movements.
