Jessica Simpson is returning to acting ... with her own sitcom!
NBC is developing a untitled scripted comedy based on her life and the singer is attached to star.
"I am so excited to work with NBC again, this time on a scripted comedy," Jessica tells The Hollywood Reporter. "I often find myself thinking that no one could ever make up the things that actually happen in my life -- so between the real-life elements and a great team of writers, I think we'll have people laughing!"
The chairman of Electus (the production company behind the show) Ben Silverman adds that Simpson is "truly a modern-day Lucy with incredibly comedic chops."
"From running a fashion empire to wrangling her public image as a new mom, we see Jessica's character approach a variety of 'everyday' circumstances that will get audiences laughing out loud," he adds.
This isn't Simpson's first foray into the acting world. She previously starred in "Employee of the Month" and the "Dukes of Hazzard" movie.
She's also appeared on TV in MTV's reality show "Newlyweds" with ex-husband Nick Lachey, the show "Fashion Star" and "Jessica Simpson's The Price of Beauty."
No word on when the show would air, but seeing as Jessica is currently pregnant with her second child, it may be a bit.
