In the new trailer for "Transcendence," the future of mankind looks grim.
Johnny Depp stars in the sci-fi thriller but not as a human -- as a human-thinking computer system.
Check out the just-released trailer above which also stars Morgan Freeman, Kate Mara and Rebecca Hall.
"The path to building super intelligence requires us to unlock the most fundamental secrets of the universe," Depp, who plays Dr. Will Caster, explains to a group of students.
"Imagine a machine with a full range of human emotion. Its analytical power will be greater than the collective intelligence of every person in the history of the world."
Shortly after his lecture, Depp is shot by a group of anti-tech assassins. While he may be dying, Caster's mind is well and alive.
That's when Will's wife makes the call to keep him in existence -- as a computer -- and he becomes invincible.
