Jeremy Jordan has done something we'd all kill to do: He got drunk with Anna Kendrick.
The two stars of "The Last 5 Years" (out today in select theaters and video on demand) broke the ice just like any two people would on a first date ... by hitting up the nearest bar to throw back a couple cocktails.
"It's a very common thing, when you have to meet someone for the first time, to get drinks and get to know someone," Jordan tells toofab's Brian Particelli. "We happened to go a little far with the drinks, but it was great. It's very indicative on who Anna is. She can be very quiet, but get a drink in her and she is the life of the party!"
We asked what her drink of choice was ... but Jordan couldn't even remember. It was that kind of night.
The new musical chronicles the highs and lows of one NY relationship, switching back and forth between the perspective of Jordan's Jamie and Kendrick's Cathy. Where all of Jamie's songs start at the beginning of the relationship and move towards the eventual split, Cathy's work from the bad breakup to their first hookup.
The audience learns the relationship won't work out right from the very first moments, making it an interesting choice for a Valentine's Day release.
"There's always darker moments," Jordan says about all romance films. "Generally there's a happy ending, ours doesn't quite have that. But I think if you go and you're in love, it'll strengthen your relationship."
The movie opens against "Fifty Shades of Grey," another film that isn't your typical "date night" flick.
"I would argue that our movie has a happier ending than 'Fifty Shades,'" Kendrick revealed during a press conference. "I have read that book. It ends with her [SPOILER ALERT] ... he spanks her too hard and she leaves him! This is true, that is fact."
Jokes Jordan, "That's sadomasochism, I'm just doing Jewish masochism."
