Chris Martin is speaking out in a rare interview about his life after splitting from ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow.
The Coldplay rocker admits he was at a "low place" in his life before the divorce, but now, he's gotten himself back on track.
"I was feeling kind of down and confused," the 38-year-old musician tells Australia's 2DayFM's Rove and Sam. "Some friends gave me a book called 'Man's Search for Meaning,' and a poem called 'The Guest House' by an Afghanistani poet, teacher, and those two things started me off on this whole journey that's ended up a few years later now where I just feel so happy to be alive."
The notoriously-private star adds, "That may sound a little simple but I suddenly feel very grateful for all these things in my life. I just feel happy to be alive and if it's coming across then that's because it's real."
Martin and Paltrow were married for 12 years before announcing their split (or "conscious uncoupling") on the actress' GOOP website in March 2014.
"It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate. We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate," the pair said in a statement at the time.
"We are, however, and always will be a family, and in many ways we are closer than we have ever been. We are parents first and foremost, to two incredibly wonderful children and we ask for their and our space and privacy to be respected at this difficult time," they continued. "We have always conducted our relationship privately, and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and coparent, we will be able to continue in the same manner."
Since the split, the estranged pair has been spotted vacationing with their kids, Apple and Moses, and they often spend holidays together.
It sounds like the divorce ended up being a new beginning for these two!
