There wasn't a dry eye in the house as Celine Dion picked up The ICON Award at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night in Las Vegas.
The legendary performer looked gorgeous, as her son, Rene-Charles, presented her with the trophy. Dion was clearly emotional, accepting the award moments after singing an amazing rendition of Queen's "The Show Must Go On."
"I want to be so strong for my family and my kids and I didn't expect that," she said of her son's surprise. "I didn't want to cry in front of you. You make me so happy."
"Music has been my passion since I can almost remember. So many people have helped me get to where I am today. Most especially, I want to thank the fans ... my family, my mom who wrote my first song, my children, and most importantly, my beloved husband whom I know will continue to watch over my from up above. Thank you Billboard Music Awards for honoring me. This one's for you, the show must go on."
According to Billboard, The ICON Award is a "lifetime achievement award that honors the cultural impact of an artist whose extraordinary talent as a creator and entertainer has stood the test of time." Past recipients include Neil Diamond, Stevie Wonder, Prince and Jennifer Lopez.
"Celine Dion has a huge repertoire of monster hits and she personally chose to perform 'The Show Must Go On' as her ICON performance on the Billboard Music Awards," added “2016 Billboard Music Awards” executive producer Mark Bracco. "I think at this moment in her life, the song has many meanings and it's an amazing choice."
"René always insisted the show must go on," Celine recently told PEOPLE of her song choice. "You know what, I'm 48 years old and I lost the love of my life. I miss him a lot from when he was great but not when he was suffering. I cannot be selfish. You have to let people go. I feel at peace."
