Stephen Colbert joked about reports that the Russian government made it illegal to distribute or share images featuring Vladimir Putin wearing makeup during Friday's "Late Show."
"It is now illegal in Russia to share an image of Putin as a gay clown," Colbert said, laughing, referencing a Washington Post article.

View Story"A straight clown, totally OK," the host said. "Bisexual lion tamer? Again -- totally fine. But 'gay' and 'clown?' Nyet, comrade."
"Because this is America -- for now -- and we can do anything we want," Colbert said, "'The Late Show' has put together our own artistic interpretation of Vladimir Putin," and called the Russian President a "gay icon."
