Katy Perry Dragged on Instagram Over 'Ridiculous' Photo Users Say Disrespects Indian Culture

The singer shared a photo of Hindu goddess Kali Ma on Tuesday, which Perry captioned "current mood."

Though over 200k "liked" the post at the time of this writing, Perry's comments section was full of users who called out the pop star for blatant disrespect of Indian culture.

Some of the comments read, "Listen up Kitty Katty...Let me ask you a Question.. What are you actually trying to convey through this??"

Another added "Please Katy!! Don't use such type of Indian God's and Goddess' pics to represent our mood..Do you know what this pic means and what's the story behind it?"

Kali Ma is known in the Hindu religion as the goddess of creation, preservation and destruction, often referred to as "Dark Mother" for her role as a destroyer of evil forces. Kali is one of the ten Mahavidyas, a combined list of Sakta and Buddhist goddesses.

"How ridiculous this?" Another commented. "You don't have permission to upload a picture of our goddess on this f--king social media and embarrassing our culture."

Perry was famously married to comedian Russell Brand, and the couple had a traditional Indian ceremony in the state of Rajasthan. Though she may have past ties to the religion, her latest post left an gross impression to most of her 63.5 million Instagram followers.

Though many have called on her to delete the photo, Perry has not yet reacted.
