Emma Kenney says getting a dog from a breeder or pet store isn't just "Shameless," it's wrong.
The 17-year-old actress stars in PETA's new "video rant" against picking up a pooch anywhere but your local animal shelter.
"Opening up your life to a dog who needs a home is one of the most fulfilling things you can do," the teenager says in the clip (above). "You say you want a puppy who's a 'purebred'? Well, you know what's pure? My hatred for puppy mills."

View Story"Let's get real. If you want a dog, go to your local animal shelter and adopt one. It's not rocket science, it's dog science," she adds, before explaining the downsides of inbreeding that come with purebred dogs.
"You want one of those designer combo breeds," she asks "You want a dog with the body of a poodle but the face of a shih tzu and the bark of a Lab. Well you know what I want? For you to get your head out of your ass."

View Story"This isn't Build-a-Bear. Go to a shelter. Meet some dogs. Play. Bond. Connect," Kenney adds. "Shelters have a ton of combo breeds. They're called 'mutts.' They're always 'in fashion,' they'll always have your back, and they'll always love you for the rest of their lives."
Kenney also proves she practices what she preaches, filming the PSA with her own shelter mutt Charlie.
