The first trailer for HBO's "The Deuce" was just released Monday, and it's intense.
Starring James Franco and Maggie Gyllenhaal, the new drama dives into the burgeoning pornography industry and dangerous mobs of New York City in the 1970s.
Franco takes on dual roles playing both twins Vincent and Frankie Martino, a gambler and bartender who turn into pornographers that are caught up in the mob, while Gyllenhaal plays a prostitute named Eileen “Candy” Merrell, who is working hard to become her own pimp in Times Square.
“I'm the center of things now,” one of the Franco twins says in the video (above). “I'm building something.”
The first look at the new series from "The Wire" creator David Simon shows scenes of the urban crime that flourished in Times Square before it became the celebrated tourist attraction we know today. The series will also supposed explore the rise of HIV, the real estate boom and the police's attempt to shut down the adult film industry at the time.
The eight-episode series premieres Sept. 10 on HBO.
