Singer Melanie Martinez, a former "Voice" contestant, broke her silence Tuesday after her friend accused her of rape.
"I am horrified and saddened by the statements and story told tonight by Timothy Heller," Martinez wrote on Twitter. "What she and I shared was a close friendship for a period of time. We came into each other's lives as we were both starting our careers as artists, and we tried to help each other. We both had pain in dealing with our individual demons and new paths we were forging, but I truly felt we were trying to lift each other up."

Timothy Heller named Martinez as the perpetrator in a lengthy statement posted to Twitter Monday. "When I wrote this story about my assault, I initially wasn't going to make the abuser, but I think it's important for you all to know this is about Melanie Martinez," Heller wrote.
Heller said she has "kept this secret for years" because Martinez is one of her "best friends" whom she "loved."
"The thought of accepting that my best friend raped me seems insane. Even typing that doesn't feel real to me. I started telling this story to those closest to me as somewhat of a joke, 'haha can you believe this crazy night!?' But I began to get responses I wasn't expecting. Concerned ones," Heller wrote in her actual statement. "It's hard to say someone you loved raped you. Someone you STILL love. The thought of writing this and having the world see it terrifies me. Especially because of who this person is."
Heller continued to explain that Martinez "took her in" and her life slowly started to turn into being the Melanie Martinez show. She wrote about a difficult time in her life in which she needed a friend, but Martinez seemed to be more interested in her sexual preferences.
"The power she had over me, grew into me having a very hard time saying no to her. I would do almost anything for her," Heller wrote. "One night during a sleepover, she became increasingly interested in my sexual preferences. As someone who had previously been through sexual abuse, sex is hard for me to take about. I was obviously uncomfortable, but she was my best friend so I tried to be open about it. The conversation never seemed to end though."

"It went on for hours. Asking me WHY I didn't want to, that it would be fun. I repeatedly said no," she wrote.
According to the post, Martinez then begun to touch her arm and begged her to let her touch her breasts. Heller said she was "so exhausted and confused and high and belittled" that she agreed.
"This led her to touching the rest of me," Heller wrote. "I never said yes. I said no, repeatedly. But she used her power over me and broke me down. Just so there is no confusion, I was molested by my best friend."
Heller said Martinez performed oral sex on her and played around with a sex toy. She wrote that they never discussed what occurred that night and eventually grew apart.
"The only reason I do this now is because I'm hoping, because of recent events, people will believe me," she wrote. "If you begin to doubt the abuse taking place in this story, I beg you to imagine her role in this being a man. Girls can rape girls. Best friends can rape best friends. Friendship does not equal consent. Silence does not equal consent. I wish it wasn't so hard for me to convince myself of these things."
