Meghan McCain Gives Colbert Her Real Feelings on 'The View' Frenemy Joy Behar

The ABC star appeared on "Late Night with Stephen Colbert" on Thursday to talk about being the most conservative voice on the show and how different it is working there compared to past gigs at Fox News. McCain joined the series as a regular in 2017, after fellow-conservative Jedediah Bila's exit.

"The show's been on 21 years. I've been on so many shows that people never watched and couldn't figure out what channel it was on, and everyone knows what 'The View' is," she told Colbert. "Being the one conservative on 'The View' has this weird lure to it and people have very intense reactions to it."

"People are like, 'I love you on The View' or, 'I absolutely hate you and you're ruining my show,'" she added, explaining that she lets it all roll off her back. "I'm really tough and I'm not a daisy and I'm not a snowflake and I can handle it."

"I worked at Fox for years and when you're in the Fox echo chamber and you're surrounded by conservatives, you're in a warm bubble and everyone feels this way," she explained. "It's not that I didn't know people were liberal, but I didn't know people were quite as liberal as Joy Behar and every morning it's like, 'Why are all Republicans racist Nazis?' and I'm like, 'I haven't had my latte yet and maybe we can talk about something else.'"

Though she and Behar have gotten into quite a few tense debates over Republican policy, McCain made sure to point out that she does "actually really like her, she's lovely."

"It's a really interesting experience, especially in the Trump era," she added of being on the show now.

McCain was later asked about her relationship with Joe Biden, who memorably comforted her on air over her father's battle with cancer in December.

Colbert's question: "If Biden ran in 2020, would you be a little Democrat-curious?"

"I disagree with his politics 70 percent, but I have cried to him multiple times about cancer, so I would have a very difficult time," she gamely replied. "He never talked crap about my dad's service, so that would give him a leg up!"
