With Carl Grimes' death in the cards when the show returns, it's time for us all to break down crying.
"The Walking Dead" released an extended look at the back half of Season 8 and man, is it a punch to the gut.
With the mid-season finale revealing Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs) was dying of a walker bite, the first episode back will also be his last on the series. That means it's time for father and son to say goodbye and, honestly, we're not sure we're ready for it.
The just-released trailer shows some of their final words to each other, with Carl pleading with his father to find peace in this horrific new world. "You put away your gun, how you stopped fighting, it was right. It still is. You can still be like that again," he tells his dad. "I can't be who I was, it's different now," Rick (Andrew Lincoln) replies.
But the biggest tearjerker is this final kicker: "Before mom died she told me I was going to beat this world. You will."
The rest of the preview shows the other survivors regrouping to take on Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and the Saviors, with Carol (Melissa McBride) once again being a complete badass and Daryl (Norman Reedus) saying, "All of us together would be their worst damn nightmare." Let's hope so, there's only so much grief fans can take!
"The Walking Dead" returns February 25 on AMC.
