During Monday night's MTV Video Music Awards, the singer was given the award by Shawn Mendes during the ceremony at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

"You know I grew up on MTV, and this is really like a tremendous honor for me," Lopez began. "It has been an incredible journey of dreaming my wildest dreams and then kind of watching them come true which -- music, acting, performing -- this career has always kind of been an obsession when people said 'You are doing too much you can only do one thing.' I always had it in my mind, 'Why not?' so I kind of had to forge my own path and make my own rules and I was obsessed like that and I liked it that way for awhile just working and working and working."
"But it wasn't until I had two little angels come into my life that everything changed," she said, referring to her children. "You know, I knew I had to be better, I knew I had to go higher, I knew I had to be stronger than I ever had been before. It was through that unconditional love that my career, my whole life, became clearer in every way and now today I stand here stronger and better than ever, so thank you Max and Emme. There is so much more to do and I know in my heart that the future is even brighter than anything I could have accomplished up to now because of you."
Lopez then went on to thank all of her team, her friends, and family. The "Waiting for Tonight" singer thanked her mother Lupe, who was in the audience.
"My mother Lupe, the original dancing queen," Lopez said. "Anybody who knows Lupe know that that's where I get all of my skills from." Lopez also thanked her father, her "rock" as well as her sisters.

"Alex, you're like my twin soul," Lopez said. "We're like mirror images of each other. You know my life is sweeter and better with you in it because you make me realize that every day the sky is not the limit, the universe is infinite and so is what we can accomplish together with love and trust and understanding. There is so much more to do, to experience. And there is no one I'd rather do it with than you, baby. You're my 'Macho' and I love you."
Lopez ended her speech, thanking her fans who have "touched" her "heart" and "soul" and have become apart of her.
"Loyalty is everything to me," she said. "Anybody who knows me knows that and you guys have won me over forever."

View StoryLopez now has joined past Vanguard Award winners including Michael Jackson, Madonna, Guns N' Roses, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Beyoncé, Kanye West, Rihanna and Pink.
But before Lopez gave her speech, she gave one of the best Vanguard Video winner performances ever and performed most of her iconic hits, such as "Waiting for Tonight," "On The Floor," "Dance Again," and "Jenny From The Block." Lopez even brought out Ja Rule for a little bit of "I'm Real (Murder Remix)," which she performed back in 2012. Lopez danced her "Booty" off, participated in epic outfit changes, and showed everyone who the O.G twerk queen is. After her performance, it doesn't matter who wins or loses, because Lopez just left it all "On The Floor."
