McCain claps back at website saying she drank "through her dad's cancer."
Meghan McCain called out how one publication covered her return to "The View", unloading on the site for how it characterized her drinking habits during her father's battle with cancer.
Speaking out against "shaming culture" in general on Tuesday, McCain took aim at a Raw Story headline reading, "The View's Meghan McCain Tearfully Opens Up About Drinking Through Her Dad's Cancer."

View StoryICYMI: on Monday, Meghan said that when her father was first diagnosed with cancer, she met up with Abby Hunstman and "got wasted" with her. "She watched me down Jack Daniels after Jack Daniels after Jack Daniels and then I threw up and her sister held my hair back." But that was only one small part of her almost 10-minute speech about her father and her family's loss.
"I had a rough day coming back to the show yesterday, it's been hard, everybody knows that and I talked about when I first found out my dad had terminal cancer with the life span of 12-14 months, I said that I got wasted, which I did that night," she said Tuesday. "And there was a headline that said, The View's Meghan McCain Tearfully Opens Up About Drinking Through Her Dad's Cancer."
"First of all, screw you," she said. "I did not drink through my father's cancer!"

"Unless you've been there ... and I was high through my brother's death and I was high through my mother's death and you know why? Because sometimes it's hard to put one foot in front of the other and until you've been there, shut up," she added.
McCain then took back the floor, asking, "Are you gonna shame Whoopi and I for dealing with death the way that we dealt with it?"
"I woke up at 5:00 in the morning, took my dad to radiation and chemo treatments, how dare you say that I am somehow an alcoholic or imply that," she continued. "And by the way, even if I was, I would be talking about it on the talk show I cohost."

View StoryShe added that she doesn't understand anyone being shamed for their "vices," saying, "I like to drink on occasion, I do not have any substance abuse problems. It's legal."
"You're shaming me for drinking Jack Daniels?!" she exclaimed.
Whoopi chalked it up to writers just doing whatever it takes to "get people to click."
