Following closely behind the leading male nominees is a group of uber-diverse, uber-talented women -- including Cardi B and Janelle Monáe.
On Friday morning, Shawn Mendes, Janelle Monáe, Alessia Cara and Apple Music's Zane Lowe announced who's up for an award on music's biggest night -- the 61st Grammy Awards.
Snagging the most nods for the 2019 event are Kendrick Lamar and Drake. But following closely behind is a group of uber-diverse, uber-talented women -- including Cardi B, Brandi Carlile, Kacey Musgraves, H.E.R. and Janelle Monáe, who actually burst into tears live on air upon hearing that "Dirty Computer" had been nominated for Album of the Year.
Adam Levine Says the Grammys 'F--ked' Maroon 5 and Wonders What Happened to Rock Music
View Story"This album is so much bigger than me," she said on "CBS This Morning." "It's not about me. It's about a community of dirty computers of marginalized voices -- being a young, black, queer woman in America. There was something I had to say, and there was a group of people that I wanted to celebrate. I'm happy to be representing them. I hope they feel seen, I hope they feel heard, I hope they feel loved and I hope they feel celebrated."
Each of the big four general field categories -- including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year and Best New Artist -- is dominated by women. In fact, of the eight acts up for Best New Artist, six of them are female: Chloe x Halle, H.E.R., Dua Lipa, Margo Price, Bebe Rexha and Jorja Smith.

View StoryAlso important to note: South Korean pop band BTS earned their very first Grammy nomination for Best Recording Package for their album, "Love Yourself: Tear." Mac Miller also received his first Grammy nod for Best Rap Album, posthumously, for "Swimming."
Keep in mind, in order to be considered for a 2019 Grammy, recordings must have been released between October 1, 2017 and September 30, 2018. This is also the first year the big four general field categories have eight nominees instead of five.
The Grammy Awards will broadcast live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 10 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. on CBS.
