Geri Halliwell Responds to Mel B's Claim They Hooked Up In Spice Girls Heyday

After decades of speculation, Mel B recently claimed to have had a fling with Spice Girls bandmate Geri Halliwell during the group's heyday, but Geri's got a different story.

"It has been very disappointing to read about all these rumors again," Geri's rep told E! News in a statement Monday evening. "She would like you to know that what has been reported recently is simply not true and has been very hurtful to her family."

Despite being hurt by the claim, Ginger Spice has nothing but love for her longtime friend, Scary Spice.

"Moving forward, Geri can't wait to see the girls and all the fans on the tour, have an amazing time with everyone and make some new memories," the statement said. And to the fans: "Geri is really grateful for your support and loyalty for so many years. She loves the Spice Girls: Emma, Melanie, Melanie and Victoria."

Mel B first made the claim during a May 25 sit-down interview with Piers Morgan for his "Life Stories" series.

"She's going to kill me, and so's her husband," she laughed after giving weight to the rumors. Mel insisted it was just a one-time encounter, though, adding, "She's going to hate me for this because she's all posh in her country house and her husband, but it's a fact. It just happened, and we just giggled at it, and that was it."

She also noted with a smile, "She had great boobs!"

"And hopefully when Geri gets asked that, which hopefully she will after this, she won't deny it," Mel added. "Because it was just a fun thing."

When Piers tried to ask how many times they'd been together, Mel shut him down. "Stop it, you pervert!" she said. "We were best friends. It just happened. Have you ever done that?"

The next day, however, Mel clarified her comments while appearing on 2Day FM radio show and reiterated that her little tryst with Geri wasn't a "big deal."

"It was just one of those things that happened one night, and I didn't go into detail about it at all," Mel said. "I just said it was a little thing, and we giggled about it the next day, and that's that."

The singer also spoke about the conversation she had with Geri following her interview with Piers. "I just texted her and I said, 'Look, I admitted on Piers that we had a little bit of a thing, but don't worry about it. It was all tongue-in-cheek, and I didn't go into detail.' I said, 'So don't worry about it.' I don't know why everyone is making such a big deal about it."

When asked if Geri responded, Mel said, "Yeah. We had a long conversation. She texted me the night of and then we just spoke at lunch today amongst other things because we're getting ready for tour right now."

Glad to know all is well and good in Spice World.
