Jaden says the thing he used to get into the most trouble for growing up was hanging out with girls.
Jaden Smith is opening up about working with the man he's thrice referred to as his "boyfriend" -- Tyler, The Creator.
In a recent interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music's "Beats 1," the 20-year-old rapper son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith discussed his upcoming record, ERYS, which he described as the literal and figurative antithesis of his debut studio album, SYRE.
Jaden Smith Says It Is 'True' That Tyler, The Creator Is His 'Boyfriend'
View StoryJaden could barely contain his excitement as he described what it was like collaborating with Tyler, "which is the homie," on their song, "Noise."
"Man, I'm so happy to have this feature from him," Jaden explained. "It's the first time. It might be the most talked-about song of the album. You have to hear Tyler's verse. People are going to listen to Tyler's verse, and they're going to come back and look at this, and they're going to think it's really funny. Listen to Tyler's verse. It's probably like... It's insane. I'm not going to ruin it, but it's literally insane...people are not ready. And that's a fact. This is so far off guard. It's going to be hilarious."
Jaden went on to say working with Tyler and A$AP Rocky, who also makes a cameo on "ERYS," was his "dream."
"'SYRE' really teed me up to release this album, so I could really have people's trust to get on it with me and to really present something amazing to the world," he explained. "I got Tyler's verse so last minute. Like, right at the deadline of the album."
What Will Smith Really Thinks About Jada's 'Red Table Talk' -- Plus, Jaden's Batman Prom and 'Aladdin'
View StoryZane noted, "What I love about this whole operation, beyond the music, beyond the art, is the honesty and the bravery and the ability to be able to say to kids your own age, 'Be yourself. It doesn't matter who you love, who you lust after, what you want to be, who you want to be, as long as you're truly yourself.' Right?"
"It's like you guys were on the front lines of this gender-fluid revolution, 100 percent," Zane continued. "You wearing the dress at Coachella must have been a moment where you were saying to yourself, 'You know what? I'm subverting this because I feel like it, and this is what I feel like wearing.' And this is what Tyler's been going through recently as well, coming out and saying, 'It's all in the lyrics. Read what you want into it.'"
"One-hundred percent, dude," Jaden replied. "[His] 'Igor' album blew me away. Really, really, really blew me away. I love that album so much. Being able to go on tour with Tyler is literally... I don't even know what to say, bro."
Find Out Why Polyamory is Important to Jada's Family on Next 'Red Table Talk'
View StoryDuring a "Beats 1" radio interview in November of last year, Jaden referred to Tyler for the third time publicly as his "boyfriend."
"I recently said that Tyler, The Creator is my boyfriend, and that's true, so just so you know," Jaden said unprovoked, referring to the proclamation he had made earlier that month.
During his set at music festival Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival, Jaden yelled into the mic, "I just wanna say that Tyler, The Creator is the best friend in the world, and I love him so f--king much. And I want to tell you guys something. I want to tell you. Tyler doesn't want to say, but Tyler's my mother f--king boyfriend, and he's been my mother f--king boyfriend my whole f--king life. Tyler, the Creator is my f--king boyfriend. It's true."
The camera panned to Tyler, who playfully shook his head and motioned "no" with his finger while laughing.
Jaden then tweeted, "Yup, @tylerthecreator, I told everyone. You can't deny it now."
Once again, Tyler laughed off the claim, replying, "Hahaha. You a crazy n---a, man."
Will Smith Gave Jordyn Woods a Pep Talk Before 'Red Table' Interview: 'You Are Supported'
View StoryDuring a later part of Tuesday's interview, Jaden got into specifics about what his family dynamic was like growing up. When asked what he used to get in the most trouble for, he said, "Oh, definitely hanging out with girls."
"That's where it would just be like, 'Oh, you had a girl staying at our house past 10:30? Oh, man, it's a wrap for you. Yeah, that doesn't fly. It's a wrap for you,'" he recalled. "And I'm like, 'Wow! Are you serious?' It was really hard. It was really hard. My first girlfriend, it was like, 'Oh my gosh, you're at the beach right now. It's 11:30 at night. You're in trouble.' Or like, 'You're with your friend and he has a fast car and you're driving in the fast car with him? No, it's a wrap. Tell your friend to pull over.' They're pulling us over as if they're the police, but over the phone!"
