"Everybody knows that she is the Taylor Swift doppelgänger, so I think that was the highest compliment he could pay her."
John Travolta went viral Monday night after he accidentally mistook a drag queen for Taylor Swift at the MTV VMAs. And Taylor was apparently laughing along with everyone else over the mixup.
While appearing on "Jerry O'" show Wednesday, dancer and choreographer Todrick Hall, who co-executive produced Swift's VMA-winning video for "You Need to Calm Down," opened up about the awkward moment.
John Travolta Confuses Taylor Swift with Drag Queen Lookalike at VMAs, Tries to Give Jade Jolie Video of the Year Award
View StoryFor those who watched the show, Travolta confused Swift with "Drag Race" alum Jade Jolie, who portrays Swift in the music video.
"[Travolta] was so confident that it was her," Hall told host Jerry O'Connell. "I loved it, I saw it and we talked about it backstage. Taylor thought it was hilarious."
"Jade Jolie has made quite the living performing at Play nightclub and she is a fantastic drag queen," Hall continued. "Everybody knows that she is the Taylor Swift doppelgänger, so I think that was the highest compliment he could ever pay her. He was very confused."
During the must-see moment, Travolta joined Queen Latifah on stage to hand out one of the night's biggest awards. Poking fun at himself prior to announcing the winner, Travolta looked at Latifah and said, "I shouldn't do this! Because I'll just mispronounce shit and f--k it up. You do it. You do it."
She complied.
After Latifah announced Swift's "You Need to Calm Down" had claimed the coveted moonperson, the singer mouthed "what the f--k" to one of her many co-stars as the group flocked to the stage.
Jolie beat the real Taylor Swift to the stage, prompting Travolta to stare awkwardly, start to hand over the award, realize it wasn't the right person and swap it out for a cringeworthy side hug.
