Launching with Disney+ on November 12, the new live-action adaptation of "Lady and the Tramp" looks to feature all the original's most iconic moments ... except maybe one.
After the disappointing performance of the live-action "Dumbo" suggested that older Disney classics may not resonate as much with the modern box office, the studio appears to wisely be shifting its latest effort directly to its Disney+ streaming service.
It lowers the risk for the studio both financially and perceptually, as a poor showing at the box office can hurt future live-action efforts, but as Disney+ is already assured to be a massive success when it launches next month, "Lady and the Tramp" can just bask in it as part of that success and perhaps pave the way for select future live-action remakes to debut there (meaning remakes of older, less assured films).

View StoryNone of this is to say that the film doesn't look absolutely adorable and charming, because it certainly does in this latest trailer. It's just to say it may be a bigger risk than the likes of "Beauty and the Beast," "Aladdin," "The Lion King" or the upcoming "The Little Mermaid."
All of those films strayed ever so slightly here and there from their animated sources, so fans of the world's most famous canine love story have been eagerly awaiting confirmation that the film's sweetest scene has made it intact into this live remake. And while we didn't get a definitive answer on that, there's at least reason for hope.
Yes, we're talking about a scene where two dogs share a plate of spaghetti and meatballs, capped with a spaghetti-induced kiss ... you know, in the way absolutely no dogs kiss but this is our movie and we don't care if it's accurate. The dogs are talking, too, so let's have a little creative latitude, okay?
While that magical kiss isn't captured in this trailer, we get pretty darn close. Close enough, in fact, to see the moment that Tramp nudges a meatball over to Lady's side of the plate with his nose. And if the kiss is movie magic, the meatball nudge may be the film's single most iconic moment. What captures the way he feels about her more than offering her a meatball.

View StoryAnyone who has ever owned a dog knows how seriously they take their meat, so this is a huge gesture.
Outside of that moment, the trailer seems to capture the familiar beats of the story, with Lady losing her status and place in the house thanks to the impending arrival of a new baby. "When the baby moves in, the dog moves out," Tramp tells her, thus beginning their unlikely courtship.
At this point, it's not entirely clear what will and won't carry over directly from the original film, but we feel pretty confident in saying that the problematic "We Are Siamese" song won't appear, though the cats might. Will it be replaced with a new, original song? Disney has injected many of their remakes with some new music, so this would certainly be a good place to do that.
We'll all find out how "Lady and the Tramp" is updated and modernized when the live-action remake is set to debut as part of the launch package for Disney+ on November 12. You can check out the first trailer below.
