Sarah Silverman posted a thread of tweets on Monday night explaining the double standard she thinks exists between male and female comics. While she said she had to chose her career over having children, she doesn't believe men have it the same way.
As a comic always working & on the road I have had to decide between motherhood & living my fullest life & I chose the latter.
@SarahKSilverman
@SarahKSilverman Men don't have to do that. I'd so love to be a fun dad, coming home from the road & being my best fun dad self.
@SarahKSilverman
So this is just a lil fuck all y'all bc u can't be a woman w/out sacrifice & that's the fact jack.
@SarahKSilverman
And I ❤️ my comedian brothers that acknowledge this truth. They're my family & for a lot of us women comic sisters, our only family
@SarahKSilverman
Silverman admitted that her idea of a "fullest life" may not align with everyone else's, after columnist and "mama of 2" Ada Slivinski said becoming a mother was the best thing that happened to her.
@adaslivinski that's beautiful, Ada!Living my fullest life is different than u living urs is all. I'm jus talkin bout me & people like me.
@SarahKSilverman
While Sarah was talking from the perspective of a female comics, many took issue with her stance and piled on her on social media. Worth noting: Silverman has been very vocal against President Donald Trump, and a lot of her critics seem support him.
@SarahKSilverman I'm a fan but you jumped the shark with that 1950s stereotype.Wake up and look around. PEOPLE sacrifice. Moms and Dads. FU2
@JBarronPR
@SarahKSilverman I've missed 50% (a year) of my daughter's life serving our country already. Yeah--so easy. You're a joke.
@RoBToTh93
@SarahKSilverman Agreed....you ARE TOO selfish to be a Mom. Thank you for recognizing that.
@daphneyuhas
@SarahKSilverman If living your life to fullest means the world revolves around you, it's good you don't have kids.
@Mmarie2539
@SarahKSilverman only someone who's never been a mom and doesn't understand importance of a dad could say something as vapid as this thread
@SenoritaCranky
@SarahKSilverman the universe is happy you have never procreated
@TruthTalkerUSA
@SarahKSilverman Why wasn't your mother this wise?
@watchmennews
@SarahKSilverman THANK GOD INDEED. YOU ARE THE LAST WOMAN WHO SHOULD BE A MOTHER .
@hollymeredith9
@SarahKSilverman @adaslivinski u always seem sad or mad . Be honest r u really living ur fullest life? really?
@meme_galt
.@SarahKSilverman And that is why you seem increasingly sad and bitter as you get older. "Fullest life" was a pipe dream.
@sdaly66
@SarahKSilverman WOW!!! Hate much? Raising children is the MOST important job in the world and the absolutely MOST fulfilling.
@legaldawn
@SarahKSilverman that's a horrible generalization. What about single dads? Quit being a man hater! There are good men out there!
@m_onicachavez
@SarahKSilverman 👍🏻That's a good choice. A loving mom requires an unselfish disposition, wisdom & a good heart. Qualities U evidently lack.

Most mothers KNOW that motherhood IS living life to the fullest. Being a mom is a privilege and an honor #feelingbadforyou
So far, Slivinski is the only comment Silverman has responded to.
