"The Avengers" officially started filming yesterday -- and today, we've got the first photo from the set.
While Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Mark Ruffalo are nowhere to be seen, the names of their on-screen characters Thor, Iron Man, Captain America and Hulk can be spotted on their chairs in front of the new S.H.I.E.L.D. logo on set in Albuquerque, NM.
According to a Marvel press release, filming will continue in Cleveland, OH and New York City.

- The Plot: "When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. "
- More Confirmed Casting: Cobie Smulders will play Agent Maria Hill, Stellan Starsgard and Tom Hiddleston will reprise their roles as Professor Erik Selvig and Loki from "Thor." Scarlett Johansson will play Black Widow and Jeremy Renner will be Hawkeye.
"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" creator Joss Whedon is directing a script he also wrote.
The movie opens May 4, 2012.
