Astrid Berges-Frisbey may not be a household name, but after this weekend she'll surely have many new fans.
The Spanish-French model/actress stars in "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" as the mermaid Syrena. Check out her photos below:
The 24-year-old was born in Barcelona to a Spanish Catalan father and French-American mother, and grew up speaking French, Spanish, and Catalan. She began acting on French television in 2007, but her big break came as the face of French Connection's Spring Summer 2010 campaign.
While she looked the part of a young, beautiful mermaid, Berges-Firsbey had never had a major English-speaking role. She had to audition in three different cities: first in Paris, then in Los Angeles, and finally in London.
An avid swimmer, the underwater scenes came naturally to her. Berges-Firsbey told TeenHollywood.com that that all the swimming parts in the movie are herself, not a double.
The relative newcomer had nothing but praise for her costars, calling Sam Claflin "professional and cute" and Johnny Depp "generous." When she struggled with English on set, she would turn to fellow Spanish beauty Penelope Cruz for assistance.
One thing's for sure -- Berges-Frisbey is poised to make a big splash in Hollywood.
