Earlier this month, Hewitt told Ellen DeGeneres she had her eyes on Levine now that he's single again ... and said she thought they'd make a "cute" couple.

Then yesterday, Adam appeared on Ellen as well -- where she asked if he had heard Hewitt's comments.
