LONDON (AP) -- Actor-comedian Stephen Fry says he is getting married and is "very, very happy" even though his hopes of a private wedding have been dashed.
Fry, who is 57, and 27-year-old partner Elliott Spencer gave formal notice of their plans to wed at the register office in Dereham, eastern England. Fry's office says no date has been set.
Fry tweeted Tuesday to his 8 million followers: "I'm very, very happy of course but had hoped for a private wedding. Fat chance."
Fry gained fame in the 1980s in a comedy duo with Hugh Laurie, and is one of Britain's best-known television presenters. He has written novels and volumes of memoir, acted in films including "The Hobbit" series and appeared onstage in London and New York in Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night."
