Even best friends can get a little competitive!
Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill hilariously revealed how they each landed roles in "Hail, Caesar!" during a press conference on Monday for Joel and Ethan Coen's new comedy.
Stars George Clooney, Josh Brolin, Alden Ehrenreich, Hill and Tatum were each on-hand for the conference which was held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Los Angeles.
While George admitted he was first asked to be part of the movie over 10 years ago, both Hill and Tatum were contacted via e-mail by the Coens.
"They had written me an email together, it was one email from both of them actually, it was so beautifully and hilariously written in their dialogue you know as the Coen brothers," the "Superbad" star explained. "They said it was a very, very small part and I just said yes right away without even reading it. I can't speak for other actors, but I can't imagine an actor would turn down the Coen brothers."
After joking that he turned down the role because he was too busy with "Magic Mike XXL," Channing revealed that he was contacted in the same fashion as Jonah.
"I did the same thing. I got an email from them, and you know you don't even read the script before you say yes. You can't even type 'I'm in' quick enough," he explained of his eagerness to work with the filmmakers.
The best part: Both Channing and Jonah were on a promotional tour together for a different movie and neither one knew that the other was offered a role in the very same Coen project.
"We were on tour promoting a movie, and it was funny because both of us were trying to very humbly, like humblebrag," Jonah explained. "So we'd brag to each other that we were going to be in a Coen brother's movie."
"[I'd be like] 'Dude I just got this email from the Coen brothers, crazy," Channing hilariously revealed.
"[And I'd be like] 'Yeah it's pretty cool, not sure if I am going to do it or anything.' And we'd laugh at each other, but it was the same movie. Of course, Channing's part was like quadruple the size," the "Wolf of Wall Street" star explained.
Though Jonah's role is much smaller than Channing's, it seems like he was just happy to be involved in the flick.
"I didn't know that actually," Tatum said about having a bigger part. "Like we both thought we had kind of small parts. In the script it only says, 'Walk into big song and dance and does knee slide into a bucket.' So I thought it was going to be like an eight-count or something and then a slide into the bucket."
"He wrote me an email actually saying, 'Are you interested in playing a bucket?'" Hill joked. "I don't want to brag but I am probably going to play the bucket."
While Channing has pretty integral role in the movie, he admitted that he was hardly prepared. Tatum had to learn how to tap dance and sing to play Burt Gurney.
"I was so scared that I was going to screw up this movie, just because I don't know how to do either of the things they asked me to do," he confessed. "Auto-tune is amazing."
Clearly, all of Channing's practice paid off -- you can check out his killer dance sequence in the video above!
