"Marcia f--king Brady of the Upper East Side" is back.
Sarah Michelle Gellar just signed on to reprise her villainous (and amazing) role as Kathryn Merteuil from "Cruel Intentions" in the upcoming NBC series of the same name, the actress confirming the news on Instagram last night.
"This picture was taken on the eve of production on the original #cruelintentions. Its me #rogerkumble (director) and #nealmoritz (exec producer) and the other is a picture of us now on the eve of production on the new #cruelintentions," she captioned the split shot. "That's right 'everybody loves me, and I intend to keep it that way' #kathrynmerteuil is back!!! I am happy to say that I will be joining them (and @nbctv ) on the new #Crueltv."
Waiting for your permission to load the Instagram Media.
Is this not the best news ever?!
So far, Gellar is the only original cast member to return, though we're not-so-secretly hoping for at least a cameo from Selma Blair or Reese Witherspoon.
The new series will be set in the present day, 15-20 years after the film, and will reportedly follow Merteuil as she "vies for control of Valmont International as well as the soul of Bash Casey (Taylor John Smith)." Bash is the son of Ryan Phillippe's character, Sebastian Valmont, and Annette Hargrove (Witherspoon).
Deadline adds that Kathryn's world is turned upside down when Bash appears on the scene, as well as the "re-appearance in her life of the girl she wronged years ago, Annette Hargrove Casey." Could this mean Reese will pop up?! We'll see.
This will be Gellar's third TV show following the end of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." If picked up for series, hopefully "Cruel Intentions" survives a bit longer than "The Ringer" or "The Crazy Ones."
