Right as we begin to catch our breath after Queen Bey dropped "Lemonade," two new tracks hit the Internet on Friday ... but beware. Once you start listening to them, you're going to be irretrievably distracted for pretty much the entire rest of your workday.
First on the docket, we've got Kesha, who's released her first single since her lawsuit against her producer Dr. Luke failed and the New York Supreme Court ordered her to stick with Kemosabe Records.
"True Colors," the 29-year-old's new collab with Russian-born EDM sensation Zedd, is a far cry from the old days of having James van der Beek guest star in a music video to call her "Ke-dollar-sign-ha." We've got a turbulent, dark power ballad here, with some fiery belt notes to let her show off a little.
"All my life, one page at a time, I'll show you my, my true colors," Kesha roars. "And no, and no, I won't apologize for the fire in my eyes. Let me show you my, my true colors. It ain't a rainbow."
"I've escaped my capture," she sings later on in the song, "and I have no master." Was that a veiled swipe at Dr. Luke?
Waiting for your permission to load the Facebook Video.
On Thursday night, Kesha had taken to Facebook to post a video teaser, which depicts her frolicking around a flower orchard dressed as a sprite, holding blossoms to her cheek and staring straight into the camera as the song's chorus plays in the background.
The songstress captioned the video, “this is more than a song. it's a declaration of my truth #truecolors."
Friday morning, after the full song was online, she tweeted, "@zedd #truecolors spoke to me so deeply I had to spread the beautiful message of personal empowerment."
On a less fraught note, Calvin Harris and Rihanna put out "This Is What You Came For" today.
RiRi's technically only featured on the song, but let's face it: where she goes, she stars.
"Baby, this is what you came for. Lightning strikes every time she moves," Rihanna coos, "And everybody's watching her, but she's looking at you!"
