The 2016 Billboard Music Awards went down Sunday night in Las Vegas, packed full of musical performances -- some lip-synched, some actually sung.
For better or worse, the night was full of can't-miss moments everyone will be talking about come Monday morning. From Britney Spears' career-spanning opening number to Madonna's tribute to Prince, it was an evening of emotional highs and lows.

Here are the must-see moments:
Celine Makes Us All Cry
There wasn't a dry eye in the house as Celine Dion picked up The ICON Award at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards, following the deaths of both her husband, Rene Angelil, and her brother.
Her son, Rene-Charles, surprised her on stage with the trophy, making the singer visibly emotional.
"Music has been my passion since I can almost remember. So many people have helped me get to where I am today. Most especially, I want to thank the fans ... my family, my mom who wrote my first song, my children, and most importantly, my beloved husband whom I know will continue to watch over my from up above. Thank you Billboard Music Awards for honoring me. This one's for you, the show must go on."
We're all bowing down to you, Celine!
Madonna Honors Prince
After a touching tribute from Questlove, the stage turned purple and Madonna emerged for her performance.
Clad in a sparkly purple paisley suit much like one the late singer would wear himself back in the day, she launched into "Nothing Compares 2 U," a song Prince wrote and recorded, before Sinead O'Connor later made it famous.
It was a very respectful tribute, one that was taken to even greater heights when Stevie Wonder joined her for "Purple Rain."
"Thank you, Prince Rogers Nelson, for all that you have given us. Thank you, goodnight," Madonna added, closing out the show.
Ariana Nearly Goes Down
Before the show even started, Ariana Grande had a Jennifer Lawrence moment during the red carpet.
As she walked up the stairs to talk to E! correspondent Sibley Scoles, the "Dangerous Woman" singer had a dangerous trip -- and almost ate it completely on camera.
Thankfully, she recovered ... but that facial expression is everything.
Britney Spears Sings About Masturbation
Britney Spears opened up the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night in Las Vegas with a 7-minute medley of her greatest hits ... including one all about masturbation!
With lyrics like, "Another day without a lover/The more I come to understand/The touch of my hand," her song choice was a bold one for primetime.
And yes, she lip-sycned the entire time.
P!nk Shows Us How It's Done
While Britney Spears, Justin Bieber and other stars didn't sing live on Sunday night, P!nk proved she can do it ... while flying through the air!
Sure, her aerial acrobatics are getting a little tired now, but there's no denying she has some of the strongest vocals in the game.
"Just Like Fire," indeed!
Demi Lovato Takes a Stand
Though it was a little odd for her to perform "Cool for the Summer," a song that came out back in July 2015, we gotta give major props to Demi for taking a stand against North Carolina's HB2 law.
The singer sported a gender-inclusive restroom logo on her t-shirt, a shot at the state's anti-LGBT law requiring transgender people to use the bathroom for their birth gender.
The move comes after Lovato and Nick Jonas canceled joint tour dates in the state due to the bill.
Kesha Plays By the Rules
Though Kemosabe Records initially canceled Kesha's performance when they thought she would address her legal battle against Dr. Luke, she eventually got the go ahead when she assured them she only wanted to pay tribute to Bob Dylan.
She didn't go against her word, delivering a truly spectacular performance of "It Ain't Me Babe," with the help of Ben Folds.
Kesha got a standing ovation from the crowd -- and there was no mention of Dr. Luke anywhere.
Adele Sends Her Love
After her win for Top Billboard 200 Album, Adele dropped her new music video during the show.
Though the singer herself was MIA from the show, instead sending a pre-taped thank you speech, the video for "Send My Love (To Your New Lover)" was still quite a treat.
Yeah, it was fairly simple, as far as music videos go these days, it was also striking. Just what we've come to expect from this one!
Rihanna Can SAAAAANG!
We've always loved Rihanna here at toofab.com -- but she's never sounded as good as she did tonight.
The singer performed one killer rendition of "Love On the Brain," delivering the tune with some real power and blues behind her voice.
Work!
