The busy singer and actor reflects on how his former boy band, Big Time Rush, prepared him to step into the spotlight as a solo artist.
We could talk to James Maslow "All Day," and are more than happy to sit there, shut up and listen to him serenade us, too.
The singer stopped by Studio TooFab to perform an acoustic rendition of his new single, alongside co-writer and upcoming TooGood Artist of the Month Dominique, who is featured on the pop track.
'Celebrity Big Brother' Blowout: Brandi Glanville and James Maslow's Final Fight Is an Absolute Delight
View Story"What I love about 'All Day' is that it's talking about a very millennial, current real thing. So many people these days, even when they're in a relationship, will text instead of picking up the phone or doing it in person," Maslow said when asked about the meaning of the song.
"We're on our phones all of the time, so the song is in so many ways saying like, 'Yo, I can flirt with you over text all day, but I'd so much rather do this in person,'" he continued. "And that's exactly how I feel about that, even with my girlfriend, I only want to text so much. I'd rather call and I'd so much rather be with her in the real world."
"It's that lustfulness, too, of wanting to be around a person all day," Dominique added.
Maslow -- a former Big Time Rush member who has since competed on hit reality shows "Dancing with the Stars" and "Celebrity Big Brother" -- first dropped the track last May, but released a remix from producer Benny Benassi today.
Although he's an actor with several movies in the pipeline, Maslow told TooFab his music career is his No. 1 passion. He credits his experience with BTR, a boy band that doubled as the cast of a Nickelodeon TV show, for instilling in him the "discipline" required to juggle his busy schedule.
"If I didn't have that experience with Big Time Rush, I think doing this now, trying to maintain both those worlds, would be stressful," he said. "Whereas now, this is what I'm used to. I'm grateful that it was basically a paid learning opportunity."
