John Mayer Clarifies How Many People He's Had Sex with After Page Six Reports 500

John Mayer broke the news to Page Six that there's "No Such Thing" as him hopping into bed with 500 women.

On Sunday's episode of his Instagram Live show, "Current Mood," he revisited a topic that made headlines last week when his guest and pal Cazzie David asked him if he's slept with more than 500 people. The crooner, who has dated Hollywood hotties including Jennifer Aniston, Katy Perry, Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Taylor Swift, answered that he's actually had sex with less than 500 people.

"Are you surprised that I've slept with less than 500 people?!" he asked the viewers, then joked, "By the way, what does it say about my expectations that if you find out that I've slept with less than 500 [people]. You're kind of impressed with me? Like 'He's a good guy.'"

Page Six proceeded to report that Mayer slept with 500 people, so he dedicated a few minutes this week to a new segment he called, "Can I Talk to You Over Here for a Minute?"

"I made reference to being a sub-500 guy and you guys, I know, listen, it's a tough world out there and you want people to like you. And I try to do it too, but I feel like people might like you more if you would just go along with what the truth is," the 41-year-old singer and virtuoso guitar player said. "The headline said that I went with 500 women ... and then you bring back all this stuff that just makes me feel bad, it's made me feel bad for years."

He may have been referring to Page Six linking to one of their previous reports that celebrity publicists advised their clients "to never date" Mayer because of "his history of blabbing about his sex life and breakups with Jessica Simpson (whom he famously referred to as 'sexual napalm') and Jennifer Aniston." The gossip site did at least give him credit for embracing "more discretion following his most recent relationship with Katy Perry."

Although he called out Page Six, he's not mad and said he welcomes the reporters watching his show. "So I just want to say to Page Six, let's have some fun. Definitely come back to the party, definitely have some fun."

But wait, you say. You're burying the lead, you say. What we really want to know is how many people Mayer actually did have sex with, you say!

Okay, fine! We'll spill the juiciest part, although we're not sure you can handle this truth bomb. And honestly, we're not sure we believe it. But straight outta Mayer's mouth: "I actually went back over my entire dating history and my number is six. So I just wanted you to know that. That my number is six."

"And I'm proud of that," he added. "Also, update your inner Wikipedia for your boy. Come to 2018."

"I went out with five you knew," he concluded, referencing the famous women he made headlines for dating during what he described as his "womanizing" period.

These days, however, Mayer said he's not as interested in smooshing. "Anybody who knows how I spend my private time knows that I would never give it to 800 women. I love hanging out by myself."

Need proof? Mayer pointed to the DIY set, consisting of stuffed animals glued to foam, that he constructed to put on this goofy Instagram show, in the first place.

"I want you to know that tonight would be an amazing night for a guy who's slept with over 500 women to sleep with another women. Instead, I'm around plush animals," he explained.
