Heartbroken Celebs React to Notre Dame Fire

Twitter was in mourning on Monday after the loss of Notre Dame Cathedral.

It took mere minutes for a fire to decimate the iconic Parisian church that had stood for more than 800 years.

"I'm heartbroken for Paris, for France, for us all, everywhere. My life is better for having seen its splendor," Rob Lowe tweeted.

Sharing a photo of the glorious stained glass rose window now very likely lost forever, Anne Hathaway wrote: "I know this is an inspired representation of an even greater divinity. I know this blessed place is a human-made interpretation of what is mysterious, unknowable, and undefinable and while seeing her burn brings tears to my eyes, I know even flames cannot diminish her sacredness. Still, not her. Please. Not her. #notredame #ourlady".

Stassi Schroeder shared a happy shot of herself visiting the irreplaceable landmark. "I'm on a plane right now, feeling such an extraordinarily extreme sense of sadness. This photo was from the first time I visited Notre Dame as an adult."

"I hesitated to even post this photo since I look like an asshole IG influencer, but I have had a deep love for Paris, and Notre Dame is the heart of this city. Every time I've walked inside, I've felt like I was a part of history and my heart is fully breaking knowing that this monumental cathedral is being torn apart. We are so lucky to be able to preserve history whether it be art, architecture etc. Appreciate history when you have the chance, you never know what can happen. I want to ramble more, but I'm going to stop myself. #notredame."

Jennifer Beals shared her thoughts in French: "I send you all my love and condolences. I feel like I have watched a dear friend suffer and die. I never knew how much she meant to me. I cry for her, for me, for all of you who knew her and loved her best. I love you Paris," she wrote en Francais.

Diane Von Furstenberg added: "Notre Dame de Paris in flames ! How terribly terribly sad ! 800 years of history ...treasure of the world....Quasimodo, Esmeralda ... Victor Hugo... ...all in smoke .. so so sad".

Sean Hayes simply wrote: "What a devastating occurrence today. 😥 #NotreDame"

President Donald Trump, tweeting as it was happening, seemed to hold out hope the cathedral could be saved: "So horrible to watch the massive fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Perhaps flying water tankers could be used to put it out. Must act quickly!"

Hillary Clinton however was already in the grieving stage: "My heart goes out to Paris. Notre Dame is a symbol of our ability as human beings to unite for a higher purpose—to build breathtaking spaces for worship that no one person could have built on their own. I wish France strength and shared purpose as they grieve and rebuild."
