A newly-opened shopping mall in Hawkins, Indiana becomes the setting for the latest battle between the Upside Down and our intrepid heroes and the danger couldn't be more personal.
Throughout its first two stellar seasons, "Stranger Things" has been a slow burn with moments of pure craziness and horror.
Now, with the final trailer of its upcoming third season, the franchise is teasing a whole new feel with more action than ever. Our intrepid gang of junior heroes is back and things are once again dire in Hawkins, much to Eleven's confusion.
"It doesn't make sense," she says. "I closed the gate."
"What if he never left?" Will asks. "What if we've locked him in here with us?"
And that sets the stage for the return of the tentacle monster from Season 2, with what appears to be a terrifying new ability and homage. Or perhaps it's yet another horror. Either way, it narrates the opening shots of the trailer by saying, "You let us in. And now, you are going to have to let us stay."
But what doe that mean? What if, as the kids theorize, the creature is in need of a new host ... or hosts? Who would those hosts be? People we've never seen before, or perhaps some of our character's most trusted allies like Sheriff Hopper or Joyce Byer?

View StoryIt's not made explicitly clear who the hosts might be (though it's not looking good for Billy), but there are enough sinister shots to make us worry the kids will have to perhaps face off against the authority figures in their lives and that's far more awful than just having to convince them that all of this is real. This time, they might truly be on their own.
Oh, and if you thought maybe we weren't going to get soaked in '80s nostalgia throughout this one, the big event for Hawkins is the opening of a mall. Anyone who lived through the decade can tell you the mall was the epicenter of teenage culture outside of school.

View StoryIt was also a golden age of horror films and action films, and with the young stars getting older and a little bigger it looks like they might just be ready to add action star to their already impressive resumes.
It's a distinction that has Season 3 looking fresh and new, even as it continues dealing with the same kids and the same general threats from the Upside Down. Only now that threat is ready to make its presence known in a huge way in the Rightside Up, which looks more dangerous and terrifying than ever.
Winona Ryder and David Harbour are back with Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Natalie Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Dacre Montgomery and the whole gang for Season 3 of "Stranger Things," dropping July 4 on Netlix.
