Kaitlynn reveals why she and Brody were hesitant when it came to signing on for "The Hills" reboot.
Kaitlynn Carter returned to the states this week after a hookup with Miley Cyrus in Italy following her split from Brody Jenner (and Miley's split from Liam Hemsworth). And while it's the only thing the internet wants to talk about, she clearly wasn't ready to when she sat down for her first interview since the breakup on Thursday night.
Carter joined her "The Hills: New Beginnings" costar Whitney Port last night for a live taping of her With Whit podcast at The Grove -- and while Port didn't ask a single thing about the Miley situation, the two did address Kaitlynn's relationship with Brody and initial reluctance to do the MTV reality show together.

View Story"Was it a hard decision for you to decide to do the show with Brody at the time?" asked Port. "Yeah," said Carter, "We took so long to decide whether to do the show or not. Spencer approached us about it probably two years ago...And it was an automatic no."
"Also, because it wasn't really real. It was kind of Spencer throwing it out again and really that's not going to happen," she continued, "Boy was I wrong." Kaitlynn added that Whitney was actually the one who convinced her to sign on.
"So we originally thought -- I don't know -- it seemed like kind of a crazy idea for Brody to be back on TV and for me to be on there in the first place cause it's not really my comfort zone," she continued. "But then I also thought, the decision really was about whether for us we'd be able to spend more time together. Because he was always on the road DJ-ing and I was always on the road for work with Foray. And so this was like a project to do together."
When asked whether she would advise Whitney against having her husband, Timmy, on the show, Kaitlynn said, "I think that my philosophy, even with the show and in life, is just to like really be authentic."

When asked if anyone or anything surprised her about "The Hills," Kaitlynn said, "It got a little dirtier than I was expecting, like with Spencer, you know him and I don't really click anymore. But it's weird because we did, for so long, right? So I think that's the only person I would say."
On the show, both Spencer and his wife Heidi have been taking aim at Kaitlynn and Brody, hard.
"It's funny because when you watch their social media, they have two separate lives and they barely see each other," Heidi said in the most recent episode. "Then when you're in person with them, they have this whole facade like they have this amazing marriage, and they're always together and it seems like two different lives they're living."
After Spencer said he believed Kaitlynn was trying to turn Brody into "this Stepford Husband, but that's not happening," Heidi told him, "I wish them the best of luck because they seem to need it." Cue Spencer: "I don't."

On Wednesday, Kaitlynn "liked" a fan's comment on Instagram that praised how "The Hills: New Beginnings" star was making Miley "happy."
"Just wanted to let u know that u don't deserve all this hate from people who claim to be Miley's 'fans'!" a fan account for the singer wrote, according to Us Weekly. "U and Miley have every right to do what ever u want! If u make Miley happy then I like u! Miley's happiness and mental health is all that matters to me!"
Kaitlynn and Miley were photographed kissing while on a girls trip to Italy last Friday. The PDA came just a couple of weeks after news broke Kaitlynn and Brody had split a little over a year after their wedding. It was also revealed the couple was never legally married.
One day later, a rep for Miley announced the "Mother's Daughter" singer and Liam had called it quits, after less than a year of marriage.
"Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time," the statement read. "Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what's best while they both focus on themselves and careers."
"They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart," the statement continued. "Please respect their process and privacy."
"The Hills: New Beginnings" airs Mondays on MTV. Kaitlynn's full podcast with Whitney will drop August 20th.
