The "Good Girls" star breaks the news in an innocent-looking Instagram post, leaving her co-stars, Hollywood friends and America shook.
Stop the presses. It turns out Hollywood marketing sometimes lies to us! And it turns out Christina Hendricks has been holding back one bombshell of a secret about the 1999 Oscar-winning film "American Beauty."
Randomly and to the shock of the entire world, the "Mad Men" and "Good Girls" star decided to pull back the curtain of Hollywood magic a bit and expose the seedy underbelly of how movie posters are made. Take the iconic "American Beauty" movie poster, with a woman's delicately holding a rose against her lower stomach.
Pimple Be Damned, 'Toy Story 4' Star Ally Maki's 'Awkward' First Meeting with Tom Hanks Was Just 'Perfect'
View StoryNow, based on the content of the film and the stars seen on-screen, fans for the past 20 years have assumed that the hand and stomach belonged to actress Mena Suvari, who starred opposite Kevin Spacey in the critically-acclaimed-at-the-time-but-now-awkward-after-sexual-allegations-against-its-star drama. It turns out that isn't the case at all.
In fact, said hand and stomach aren't even attacked to the same person. And now we are severely shooketh.

In one of the best "Throwback Thursday" missives of all time, Hendricks revealed that back in '99 she was a hand model. "This is my hand and another model's stomach," she captioned an image of the movie poster. "Proud to be a part if this film in ANY WAY!!!"
What she doesn't reveal is who the stomach then belongs to if not her or Suvari. Nor does she talk about how Suvari must have felt to find out that her stomach and hand weren't suitable for the film's official poster. Or were her hand and stomach too busy at the time to commit to a photo session?
Maybe Hollywood insiders knew about her amazing performance on the poster, because it was in that same year that her acting career really took off, scoring her first lead role on the Showtime comedy "Beggars and Choosers." From there, she pretty much worked non-stop until her role in "Mad Men" took her career to the next level.

View StoryHilariously, many of Hendricks' Hollywood friends and co-stars jumped into this post, as shocked as the rest of the world. Somehow none of them knew about the hand she gave the blockbuster film.
"This is important. How come I didn't know this?" January Jones asked, while fellow "Mad Men" co-star Alison Brie went with a simple "whoa" and Ben Feldman settled for "What?"
Elle Fanning said that she was "shook" by the news, as Busy Philipps asked the esoteric question, "Wait... What?!"

View StoryHendricks' "Good Girls" co-star Retta chimed in with a hilarious, "Staaahhhppp." Somehow we suspect there will be a lot of talk (and jokes) about this when that cast reconvenes to film their show's third season.
Rachel Leigh Cook demanded to know, "What else are you hiding from us?" And Whitney Cummings spoke for all of us when she said, "This is blowing my mind."
Who knew that one hand holding one flower could shock a nation and bring everyone together like this. We can't imagine a more bizarre situation having such a profound impact again ... until the stomach model comes forward.
