The scenario put MTV in an awkward position, as they refused to film the trip for legal reasons.
When Kailyn Lowry wanted to take her three boys on vacation to Hawaii for a month, she got major pushback from ex Jo Rivera -- and when the two couldn't reach a compromise, she simply took off with their son without telling him.
It all went down on Tuesday's new episode of "Teen Mom 2," which began with Kail and costar Leah Messer planning their upcoming trip together with their respective children. The plans hit a bit of a roadblock when Lowry learned Jo was supposed to have custody for one day of their getaway.

View Story"I had asked Jo to go to Hawaii and I'm entitled to vacation days as long as I give notice," she explained to Leah over the phone, later claiming on Twitter her notice was given 30 days in advance of the trip. "I did all that, but I did not include the first week of July because it's my week and come to find out the 4th of July is his holiday. It truly was my mistake."
"I said, 'Well, I f--ked up, can I trade you a holiday or give you Christmas?' and he said no," she claimed. "He didn't want Isaac to go in the first place, so I feel like he's using this to make it even more difficult."
According to Kailyn, neither of her two other baby daddies gave her a hard time about their extended trip, adding that Isaac has been "dying" to go to Hawaii and didn't care about going to his father's for a 4th of July BBQ. "Jo is being difficult for no reason," Lowry continued.
She then said she spoke with her lawyer about the situation and was told, "If Jo's going to file contempt, worse case scenario I could get a fine or go to jail. I said, 'F--k it.'" Because of this legal development, Lowry said MTV refused to film Lowry in Hawaii. TooFab reached out to the network for comment.
"If they film or if they don't film, I'm still taking Isaac," Lowry told Messer. "If I have to sit in jail for my son to go experience a month in Hawaii, you're damn f--king right I'm going to sit in jail!"

View StorySpeaking with a few of her friends hours before takeoff, Kailyn said she would be leaving "knowing full well that when I get home, I may have a fine, I might go to jail." She added that she didn't know if Jo knew she was still going on the trip -- and didn't mention it at all to him when she went to Jo's house to pick up her son.
In Lowry's mind, the trip wasn't about Jo, "it's about Isaac" -- and she was fed up with "backtracking" when it came to their post-relationship relationship.
"This is something [Isaac has] been bugging me to do for 2 or 3 years now," she said. "I asked him, 'What do you want to do for 4th of July -- do you want to go to a barbecue with your dad or do you want to go to Hawaii?' There's no comparison."
"I'm just gonna go pick him up at 6:00 and go on our merry way to the airport," she said, before doing just that.
Lowry didn't appear in the previews for next week's episode, though Messer was seen in Hawaii. Leah made it clear MTV would still be able to film her, but nothing of them together.
"Teen Mom 2" airs Tuesdays on MTV.
