"I don't want to be jaded or bitter from anything," Gomez explained.
Selena Gomez is getting real about love.
In a wide-ranging interview with the "Zach Sang Show" Friday, the singer, 27, spoke about what she's learned while being single and revealed what she's looking for in a relationship.

View Story"I've been super, super single for two years," Gomez began. "I want to know what that love will look like next for me."
"I want it to be real," she continued. "I don't want it to be co-dependent or messy or lack of communication. I think when you get older, you find people who are actually right for you, that are actually on the same wavelength if you will."
"I'm chillin' right now, you guys," she added. "Honestly that [dating] is so stressful so I've been having way too much fun being on my own. It sucked for the first year, I was like, 'I just wanna cuddle, I just wanna watch something and be adored.' Now it feels good. Now it feels awesome."

View StoryGomez, who describes herself as a "hopeless romantic," said she's enjoying being single. However, when she does begin searching for love again, she expressed that she will "do so many things differently" than in the past.
"I would be very transparent," she said. "I don't have room to buffer things that I need or that I want. I think girls can sometimes be scared of that, because we're viewed as crazy or needy or overthinking things and dramatic. I understand sometimes, but I love being a girl and I love having the emotions I have and falling super deep and being passionate. It's just about containing it and channeling it in the right areas."
"But I never want to lose the sense of love that I imagine it to be," she continued. "I don't want to be jaded or bitter from anything. I believe that it exists. I'm happy waiting for that for however long it takes because we're going to be doing this forever."
The "Monte Carlo" actress -- who famously dated Justin Bieber and The Weeknd -- categorized her first experience with love as "a little toxic."
"You're in a phase of life where you experience love for the first time and I think that can just be a little toxic," Gomez explained. "When you're young... you have this codependency that you think is love, and then you have this addiction to the passion and the frustration with each other and you think, 'Oh that's love.' I believed that for a long time."
Gomez also spoke about her two new songs -- "Look At Her Now" and "Lose You to Love Me" -- both of which fans believe refer to her on-again, off-again relationship with Bieber.
When asked by Sang if she hopes the "individual" the songs are about will listen to her new music, Gomez explained, "I mean, I think that -- Yeah, I do."
She continued, "And here's the whole point: being able to say something on your own, and being able to turn it into something that actually is beautiful..."
"For me, my intentions are never evil. They just aren't," she concluded. "I don't even know how to do that. I mean I can be a bit snappy. I always want to come from a place that's genuine, and when I feel like some things haven't been said, then I get to turn things into art."
