As we get closer and closer to the 10th season of "American Idol," new details about how the show will go down are coming out -- and it's starting to sound really interesting!
According to the show's executive producers, instead of having a Top 24, 60 contestants will perform at the Mirage's Cirque du Soliel theater before being cut down to 40. Those 40 will then be narrowed down to 20 by the judges before America does a sudden death vote to cut to the final 10 or 12.
Another change this year: The final group won't be split down the middle 50% male/female. Says Exec. Producer Ken Warwick to EW, “If I've got six fantastic boys and four average girls, I'm certainly not going to throw out a fantastic boy to put in another average girl, or vise versa."
One big change you won't be seeing: A music video round, despite earlier reports to the contrary.
The new season kicks off January 19!
