"The Hills" had a very memorable series finale back in 2010 -- but today, MTV finally unveiled an alternate ending for the reality show.
In the original, Kristin Cavallari said goodbye to sometimes-boyfriend Brody Jenner, hopped into her car and drove away ... only to have the camera pan out and show that Brody was on a backlot.
The closing shot more than suggested that, yes, the entire series was completely fake.
But in the alternate ending, Brody says goodbye ... and then goes home to LAUREN CONRAD, who left the show mid-way through the last season. Watch the video above.

Cavallari has since said the show was staged numerous times -- telling Andy Cohen on "Watch What Happens Live" that it was "pretty fake" and full of "fake relationships" and "fake fights."
Real or fake, we still watched way too much of this show than we care to admit!
