A slew of celebrities are throwing their support behind Spirit Day today, which is an initiative to raise awareness about the bullying of lesbian, gay, bi and transgender youth.
As part of today's online efforts, celebrities who have put a purple overlay over their Twitter and Facebook images include Kate Walsh, Jill Zarin, Alyssa Milano, Page Kennedy and Khloe Kardashian. (And here at TooFab, we've put a similar overlay on our Twitter page).
And Paula Abdul tweeted, “pls support by following @SpiritDay NO ONE should have to endure bullying! children are dying & it's not right. #SpiritDay"
In addition to those bold-faced names, the following media personalities are wearing purple today: the hosts of "The View" and "The Talk", "Good Morning America's" Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb, Ellen DeGeneres, Joel Burns, Ryan Seacrest, and Giuliana Rancic.
“How many lives have to be lost before we put a stop to homophobic abuse and bullying in our schools,” said GLAAD President Jarrett Barrios. “By wearing purple this Wednesday, we will not only demonstrate our support for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth; we will also show educators and school administrators that the time to end anti-LGBT bullying is now.”
