"Glee" paid tribute to star Cory Monteith on Thursday night, in an episode simply titled "The Quarterback."
Original cast members Amber Riley, Mark Salling, and Harry Shum Jr. returned and joined the current cast for their opening number, "Seasons of Love" from "Rent" (Dianna Agron was noticeably absent after reports of her not getting along with the cast):
The plot didn't mention how Cory's character Finn passed away (Monteith died of a drug overdose in July).
"Everyone wants to talk about how he dies, but who cares," Chris Colfer, who played Cory's on-screen brother Kurt, asked. "I'm going to spend my entire life missing him."
There were a number of emotional performances, including one heart-wrenching one from Finn's parents, Carole (Romy Rosemont) and Burt (Mike O'Malley).
But the toughest moment came at the end, when Finn's onetime fiancee Rachel (played by real-life girlfriend Lea Michele) returned to McKinley High's glee club.
"I loved Finn, and he loved me and he loved all of you guys," a tearful Rachel said, before singing into "Make You Feel My Love."
