Amal Clooney, a human rights lawyer who also happens to be pregnant and married to George Clooney, addressed the United Nations on Thursday over ISIS genocide - but it was her baby bump that made headlines, and people are pissed.
Amal was accompanied by her client, Nadia Murad, a woman who escaped ISIS slavery to become a Goodwill Ambassador and Nobel Peace Prize nominee, yet the company growing inside her belly is what celebrity gossip sites Hollywood Life and Daily Express focused on. The problem here: Amal was not "showing off" her baby bump. She wasn't on a red carpet with her husband, (which she did last month), or doing a planned photoshoot. She was simply heading to work to make a very important speech.
It's worth noting that the story TIME's Twitter account shared was headlined "Amal Clooney Addresses United Nations on ISIS." Still, the tweet generated plenty of backlash, anyway.
