Shawn Mendes will kick off the revival of "MTV Unplugged" next month with a performance at Ace Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.
The network announced on Thursday that "MTV Unplugged Shawn Mendes" will air Sept. 8.
"We've been working out asses off just trying to figure out the most beautiful way to play these songs in a smaller, stripped-drown way that still feels as impactful," the 19-year-old pop star told Variety. "I feel like if I can do this right, then it will be a moment for me where people can really understand and see me as a musician and a singer, and where I'm coming from."

View StoryThe show, in which popular artists perform their hits and covers acoustically in front of a live audience, debuted in 1989 and ran intermittently through 2009. Memorable artists that have participated in the past include Nirvana, JAY-Z, Bruce Springsteen, Miley Cyrus, Lil Wayne, Mariah Carey and Adele.
Mendes' latest single is currently No. 1 on Top 40 radio, and he'll be performing at the MTV Video Music Awards, which air Aug. 27.
Mendes is up for a Moonperson in the Best Pop Video category for his hit, "Treat You Better."
