Kendrick Lamar, Katy Perry & The Weeknd Top MTV VMA 2017 Nominations

Kendrick's video for "HUMBLE." came out on top with eight nominations, with Katy Perry and The Weeknd close behind with five noms each.

But perhaps the biggest nugget of news lies in the categories of this year's show. Best Male Video and Best Female Video have been combined into a non-gender-specific category -- Artist of the Year -- which echoes the network's decision to combine Best Actor and Best Actress at the MTV Movie & TV Awards earlier this year.

A new category -- Best Fight Against the System -- has also been added "to celebrate videos that inspire viewers to stand up and fight injustice."

Fans can vote for their favorite nominee from each of the eight categories listed below starting Tuesday.
