"I think she would probably admit that it's not her best work, but the girl's crazy talented," the actor told Ellen DeGeneres Friday morning. "She really is."
"It's hard to see somebody you care about get beat up like that," he added. "But that's the business. You're in this business, you put yourself out there, and sometimes you win, sometimes you don't."
But Duhamel assured Ellen that Fergie was "fine," adding that "she's about as resilient as they come."
Duhamel and Fergie announced their separation back in September 2017, saying they had made the joint decision earlier last last year. The two share 4-year-old son Axl, who Josh says is currently attending hip-hop classes.
"He is in hip-hop class, and I also have in T-ball starting this week, which is gonna be awesome," Duhamel said. "Mom puts him in hip-hop clothes, I put him in tee-ball clothes."
"Anybody who has kids understands that they have no idea what baseball even is or what they're supposed to do," he explained. "So what I did is I put little M&Ms on each base inside the house, and I set up the tee and I had him hit the ball, and he gets to go to first base if he gets the ball passed me, and every time he gets there, he gets an M&M. So I don't know if I'm gonna have a kid with diabetes by the time he's 7 years old, but he's gonna learn how to play baseball."
