As has become the case in recent years, the Grammys started handing out awards before the awards ceremony on Sunday night, leaving Gaga awash in emotions and tears even as she was still getting ready for the big event. The Grammys show itself has become more of an all-star concert event with a few awards handed out between performances.
And so while the stars were hitting the red carpet in anticipation of the big ceremony, Gaga was hitting Twitter to show her appreciation for wins at both the Grammys and the BAFTAs, which also took place Sunday night in the UK.
Her first Grammy win came in the category of Best Song Written for Visual Media for her duet with Bradley Cooper, "Shallow." She shares the win with her co-writers Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando and Andrew Wyatt. It is Bradley Cooper's first-ever Grammy.
This win came on the heels of the pair (along with Lukas Nelson) winning the Best Original Music BAFTA for "A Star Is Born." Gaga tweeted, "I wish so much I was there but am at the Grammys to show them our love as well. We made a film about music. This means the world to me."
Cooper, on the other hand, was spreading the love across the pond at the BAFTA Awards, where the film -- which he directed and co-starred in alongside Gaga -- was nominated for seven awards. This means Cooper won't be available to perform with Gaga at the Grammys, but they are expected to perform together for the Oscars.
I can't believe we just won Best Original Music @BAFTA 's . I wish so much I was there but am at the Grammy's to show them our love as well. We made a film about music. This means the world to me. Thank u to all our fans we love u so much, we wouldn't be here without u #BAFTAs pic.twitter.com/nD8QZgwySB
I'm not gonna be able to wear any makeup tonight. We just won our first of Grammy nominations for the night. I'm in tears with honor and gratitude. Thank you @RecordingAcad #Grammys #Grammy and my co-writers and Bradley I love you so much thank you 😭❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
The love from the Grammys didn't stop there, and it didn't stop with "Shallow." A little later, Gaga was shocked again when her single "Joanne (Where Do You Think You're Goin'?)" won for Best Pop Solo Performance, for which she said she was absolutely shocked. She recorded this track in one heartfelt take.
😭❤️a Grammy for Joanne is more than me & my family could ever dream of. I sang that version in one take, & poured my entire life & soul into it. Thank you so much for this gift I am completely shocked. 2nd Grammy win of the night I am so overwhelmed by this kindness. #grammys🎼
Already off to a good start, Gaga absolutely needed to jump off of Twitter after sharing these tear-filled (emoji) tweets so she could pull herself together for the ceremony itself. "Shallow" is still up in three other categories, including Record of the Year.
