Terry Crews Wants to Be King Triton in Live-Action 'Little Mermaid' and the Internet Is Here for It

Terry Crews kicked off a feeding frenzy on Saturday when he proactively threw his hat in the ring for a prominent role in Disney's upcoming live-action "The Little Mermaid."

The "America's Got Talent" host and "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" star threw up a brilliantly ridiculous modified image of his buff torso atop a merman tale with a trident, captioning it, "Ariel's Dad!!!!" He even threw in an "AGT"-inspired hashtag in case his intentions weren't crystal clear: #ArielsGotTerry.

Crews' bid comes in response to Disney announcing that Chloe x Halle singer Halle Bailey had been cast as Ariel in the studio's upcoming remake of its own classic animated film.

"After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substance — plus a glorious singing voice — all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role," director Rob Marshall confirmed on Wednesday afternoon.

While casting is still in its early stages -- with names like Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder and Awkwafina as Scuttle being tossed about -- the casting of an African-American young woman as Ariel certainly opens the door for Crews to take on the iconic role of her strict father King Triton.

There's also a lot of online support for Idris Elba, who is a fantastic actor ... but did he Photoshop himself as King Triton so we could visualize it already? Plus, we love that Crews is lobbying so hard for the role already.

Plus, if we're being totally honest, is there another actor who can play hugely intimidating and teddy-bear sweet at the same time? Okay, other than The Rock?

On top of all that, King Triton was absolutely ripped even as a cartoon character, and Terry Crews certainly has the pec-tacular physique to sport Triton's shirtless ensemble. And the internet has been bandying his name about almost from the moment Bailey's name was revealed for Ariel.

Let's just say after imagining how great it would be, we'll actually be a little heartbroken if Crews is not chosen ... unless maybe they get The Rock. Okay, Elba would be good, too, but Crews would be great!
