They're baaaaack!
The McGuire family, together again!
Disney+ just released the first photo of Hilary Duff and her on-screen family on the set of the streaming service's upcoming revival, ahead of the first script read (below). With Duff returning in the titular role, Hallie Todd, Robert Carradine and Jake Thomas will also reprise their roles as Jo, Sam and Matt McGuire.
According to Disney, the read-through marks the "first time in 15 years" they've reconnected.
Duff shared the same photo to her Instagram page, adding in the caption: "we are standing in what will soon be the McGuire living room. What's up fam. We doin this #lizziemcguire #disneyplus"
The show will follow a now-adult Lizzie, who's just shy of her 30th birthday. While she "seemingly has it all," including a "dream guy," swanky Brooklyn apartment and a job working as an assistant to a NYC decorator, "things aren't always what they seem." The press release says that, "With a little help from her friends, her loving family and her 13-year-old alter-ego in animated form, Lizzie navigates the ups and downs of adulthood."
"Just like there is no Lizzie McGuire without Hilary Duff, there is no McGuire family without Hallie, Robert, and Jake," said Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer, Disney Channels Worldwide. in a statement "The original series holds a special place in the hearts of so many, and we can't wait to introduce fans, both old and new, to an older, wiser, yet still perfectly imperfect Lizzie."
"We are incredibly excited to bring back one of the most popular Disney Channel series of all time along with some beloved and familiar faces," added Ricky Strauss, president, Content & Marketing, Disney+. "With Terri at the helm and Hilary, Hallie, Robert, and Jake back after all these years, it's our honor to welcome the McGuire family into the Disney+ family."
OG "Lizzie McGuire" series creator Terri Minsky returns as showrunner and executive producer.
Disney+ launches November 12, 2019.
