Beauty queen Anya Ayoung-Chee can add another title to her list of accomplishments.
The former Miss Trinidad and Tobago was named the winner of "Project Runway" Season 9, beating out finalists Joshua McKinley, Viktor Luna, and Kimberly Goldson.
Anya came into the competition with the a great eye but one huge disadvantage: she only had been sewing for four months. She proved to be a resourceful competitor challenge after challenge. Her most impressive win (aside from Thursday night's) came midseason, when she lost her fabric money and had to use change and leftover scraps to pull together a '70s-inspired look.
Anya's final collection was Caribbean chic, flowly and feminine (see her winning collection above). Judges Heidi Klum, Michael Kors, Nina Garcia, and L'Wren Scott praised her eye for beautiful prints but said it was one-note (as we had correctly predicted). Despite this, the judges admired her consistent point of view and felt she had the most promise.
Runner-up Joshua toned down his wild style to claim second place, while Viktor's sheer styles proved to be a liability. Kimberly had some great pieces, but the judges felt she needed more time to develop.
Anya's prizes include $100,000 from L'Oreal Paris, a fashion spread in Marie Claire, a $50,000 technology suite by HP and Intel and the opportunity to design and sell a collection on Piperlime.com.
Season 10 of "Project Runway" will be an all-star edition and will air in 2012.
